Clarke spikes the water for holdover positions...
Somewhat lost in the flurry of discussion over Clarke's testimony is the following - when the White House changes parties in the future, is there a chance that anyone will be kept on? Clarke's shiv job on Bush makes the likelihood of new adminstrations keeping former administration holdovers slim and none. What new administration will be willing to trust their advisors in the new Strike-It-Rich book market, much less with players appointed by juxtaposed prior administrations?
This is the greatest lasting damage done by Clarke. Not to Bush, not to the Iraq war, nor Condoleeza Rice, but to the Executive's ability to trust those who serve him...
