The McCain Identity

What Part Of 'Non' Do You Not Understand?

Revealing a nearly pathological amount of buyers remorse, Democrats keep offering up John McCain as the perfect VP candidate for Kerry.

You might not know reading it in the mainstream media, but if you've ever heard McCain interviewed, he spells out with extraordinary clarity that he will not run as VP for Kerry. McCain is friends with Kerry - but despite what some conservatives accuse, he is a Republican. He's in line to become Chariman of the Armed Services Committee in 2006. And he has no interest in being someone's vice president.

Despite repeated declinations, Democrats keep returning to McCain - and betray what many have felt for a long time, which is that the Democrat Presidential field is extremely thin. Edwards is woefully inexperienced (didn't know what the Defense of Marriage Act was? Come on...), Clark is a Republican, Graham is just too weird, Lieberman too conservative (but McCain isn't? Come on....) - only Dick Gephardt represents traditional Democrat constituencies, but failed to get traction in what should be his strength, the midwest.

So Democrats keep dredging up McCain. And it's not just pundits and Kerry people. John Kerry consistently namedrops McCain everywhere, tacitly linking McCain as a shadow character endorsement. McCain is Kerry's friend, but has said repeated he wants George Bush re-elected, stating he has led the nation with moral leadership and clarity since 9/11.

Perhaps McCain needs to issue a statement saying "je ne cours pas".
