Time Flies

When you aren't having fun...

Wow, over a year has passed since blogging here last. Politics has become un-fun. I've always enjoyed political discussions, but as I have said in the past, those discussions can only bear intellectual fruit when reasonable people enjoy a discourse. It can be heated, it can be heartfelt, it can be partisan, but it must be reasonable.

Reasonableness is one of the rarest commodities to be found these days.

Why start again? I probably won't... at least now. An errant click returned be to the site, and I stopped to read a while. I thought about things that have happened since blogging - the election, success in Iraq, economic damnation, the return of piracy to the seas, and such, and while there are things to say, does anyone want to read a reasoned response, or just one that validates already held conclusions? I recall after the election, but before the inauguration, hearing people ripping Obama - the man had yet to take office, and yet the carousel was already running full tilt with prologue invectives based on nothing more than expectation.

Now, Obama has spoken of or done things I approve of - simplifying the tax code (year, I'll believe it when I see it, but still...), making changes to the usurious policies of credit card companies (I hear the howling now, how this will force card companies to turn down less credit worthy borrowers - as if that was a bad thing!), that shaking Chavez's hand doesn't constitute anything destabilizing our hemispheric relations (it'd be reassuring though to hear that he'd mention concern for freedom and liberty during his little chats...) - and things I do not like, such as the ridiculous performance of Homeland under Napolitano, possibly playing politics with Bush policies on interrogation, asking the head of GM to step down, and a generally supine appearance when overseas. But these have the benefit of being based on policy, not based on boo-hoo-my-guy-isn't-in-charge.

The body politic is poisoned right now - and it's going to take something that really sucks to suck out the venom...

It Is Time

The sleeper must awaken...

Blogging should be reserved for those times when there is something worth saying. That time has now arrived.

The 2008 election season has commenced. And I can no longer stomach the whining from fellow conservatives who should know how to act like adults but have recently behaved like peevish, obnoxious cry-babies. I always felt that paranoia was predominantly endemic to lunatic fringes of the left. But conservative reaction to McCain's victory in Florida, and potential nomination, puts even the most brain-fevered hard left lunatic in a run for their money for who can spew the most outlandish, churlish, immature and frankly useless political polemics.

To the extent a voice among many can be heard to return sanity and order, I will attempt to raise it. I have awakened.

Ba-da BOOM !!!!

Coming back with a bang, baby...

Can you believe that THIS nonsense has been the big story since I last held forth? Talk about petulant, retrograde, Luddite outlooks, don't dare DRAW something we don't like? This works out well for Islamic Nationalism, because it is SO petty, SO unserious, that someone incined to treat the rise of such Nationalism with apprehension and wariness is instead driven to bemused indifference. The awakening to the nature of this will be later, and more serious now...

Negligent Blogicide

I know... I KNOW...
Yes, another disinterested hiatus struck the blog. Small times and small people lead to small talk, and I've never been a big fan of small talk.

Hence, I never weighed in on Harriet Myers, who came and went like so many news stories, and who today would easily lose a name recognition contest with Natalee Holloway, Aruba vanishee extraordinaire.

Alas, something has stirred my slumber... I'll be bound to blog it soon...

Baby Steps

I think we have a bouncing baby blog...

Finally migrating to that new hardware mentioned oh so long ago. Moving the blog software Movable Type and it's supporting underpinnings is NOT easy. As it turns out Movable Type isn't so Movable...

Not that you really care. But it will help me begin to reclaim my office from my business, which is now moving on up, to the top, to a deluxe colocation in the sky...

UPDATE: And to prove it, this post didn't appear until I force updated my index file... blogging could be pretty dodgy for a while...

But Enough About Me

What do YOU think of me?

I have finally upgraded the blog system to Moveable Type version 3.whatever, and now that there are quality controls to make sure my blog isn't used as a graffiti school by Internet riff-raff, it's time to open up the floor to comments. Feel free to post your questions or thoughts on any blogged item.

All comments welcome, unless you want to simply post an ad for Swedish penis enlargement hair growth formula Viagra online casino gambling porn.

Friggin' server...

Well, in the last four days the server has died at least once every day. Condemned a bunch of drives at first, but it now looks like the SCSI controller or hotplug backplane is a likely culprit, with the SCSI controller throwing parity errors in the event log before the system stumbles to a halt like a drunk falling down an icy stairwell...

All of this during a very busy two weeks have kept updates low. Fear not... we plan to force migrate to a different server in the next couple of days, and hopefully things will calm down enough to start adding to the blog, rather than just keeping it online...

Court Order

A federal judge ordered my blogging tube removed...

Seems as plausible an explanation as any for my absence. Have a new burst of blogging energy coming, expect entries for the forseeable future. But like a feeding tube, it could be pulled at anytime by a judge based on your adultering husband's wishes any time, so enjoy it while it lasts...

Stop Checking Milk Cartons

I am ALIVE...

Like the prodigal son, I have returned... much has happened of late. Abbas wins in Palestine, and a new opportunity rises. A disaster strikes the far east, and the West wastes no opportunity to navel gaze by becoming absorbed in the auction atmosphere of giving. Iraq is still an ugly fight, where I still don't think this country is ready to really do the hard work to win.

It's a pleasure to be back with you again...

I Know, I Know !!!

This blogging thing is HARD...

I know, you've come here, waiting, expecting... and I've left it all on the table over at Slings & Arrows. When someone asks me to pinch hit, I gotta give him 100%. Not half, but the whole kiboodle. The whole nine yards.

Hence, pickings here have been slim.

But good news! Working on an article that is so long I wouldn't dare post it on someone else's space. What that means for you, dear readers, is exclusive content and hard hitting analysis you ain't gonna get anywhere else! Well, at least I hope not, I'm a one trick pony and if someone else is doing the trick - I'm sunk...

Short Shrift

I'm leaving it all on the table... just not this one.

I know, I know... just as soon as I get a little interest going here at this site, I go on vacation and then spend the best years of my life pinch hitting at Slings & Arrows.

Be sure to check BOTH sites folks, there will be content at each you can't get at just one!

Pinch Hitting

Will be walking and chewing gum for a while...

Bryon at the esteemed blog site Slings & Arrows has graciously asked me to help fill in while he takes a well deserved breather. Be sure to hop over for a read - which you ought to be doing anyways...

Return Of The Mack

The prodigal blogger returns...

Well, it looks like our last predictions were pretty spot on the mark - except for the unfortunate train wreck that is your...Dallas...Cowboys...

Fallujah is taken.
Peterson is guilty.
W is still the President-elect.

We forgot to include Arafat assuming room temperature, which we meant to but in our haste to prepare for vacation forgot to mention. A generous reader would call us 4 for 4 on non-football related predictions...

As to vacaction, for those so curious - we stopped at Cozumel (ugh), Roatan (poor, but pretty, nice beaches), Belize City (ugh, love the Lenco pottery though), and Cancun (very nice). Did some swimming, shark-feeding (seriously), stingray and shark petting (sounds dirty, but isn't - you wanna pet my stingray?), overpriced goods shopping (never, ever buy jewelry in a tourist destination - ever), some gambling (made it to the finals of the blackjack tournament, but the dealer hit Blackjack, then drew into a 21 and a 20, which destroyed me in the first three rounds of the seven round final), and some general post-election relaxing.

We came back recharged and ready to blog our minds out. Ah hell, who are we kidding... we came back reeling in a post-alcohol-toxicity-induced coma and still feel the motion of the boat a day later. But we'll get it together...

All we ever wanted...vacation, have to get away... yeah, it's the Go-Go's, so?

Well, having shot our wad during this highly charged and relevant electoral season, we're going on semi-hiatus. There is a remote possibility of light blogging for the next week, but we'll likely be too occupied with onboard festivities as we board the USS Thank-God-The-Election-Is-Over on a 7 day cruise through the Carribean. I'll have an umbrella drink for you.

When we return we fully expect:

Fallujah to have fallen to Iraqi and Coalition forces
The election result to remain unchanged
The Cowboys to win in Cincinatti and cover the spread
Scott Peterson to be contemplating his soon-to-be-over life while being traded around C-block for a pack of cigarettes.

In the meantime, if you've come here only to find I'm gone, I recommend the following reading. As I've mentioned in posts past, I don't blogroll, because the list becomes unwieldy and you can never list them all without leaving someone off. But we've mentioned sites in the past worthy of your perusal - so here they are:

Slings & Arrows - Bryon doesn't leave any rounds unfired, and his quantity is as impressive as his quality
Just On The Other Side - good friend Allan documents the outrageous antics of people who do things that just don't make any sense
Polipundit - a voluminous compendium of the days events by a quintet of smart, active writers

And from those jumping off points (I mean did I really need to list Instapundit?) the best of the web is surely a click away.

See you all in a week, and thanks for stopping by... I'll pass out in my cabin for each of you (ah Hell, who am I kidding, I don't even drink...)

Looks like we weren't the only one's who rushed for the Office Assistant joke yesterday. Jay Reding actually beat us to the punch by a few hours on the timestamp (darn 8-5 jobs!), so check out his take and Photoshop editing skills...

Hat Tipping

Exposing our bald spot in thanks and admiration...

Thanks and kudos need to be sent to Bryon at Slings And Arrows, a copious and well-written blog worthy of your perusal. You may notice great minds thinking alike when you read his reaction to Kerry's midnight serenade here. Bryon was kind enough to find our reaction worth noting, and we appreciate it.

And a great group of guys, friends for a long time, forged around a shared passion for the greatest team in the greatest sport on earth, have started a site of their own, Conservative Cowboys, a natural extension of their thoughts from the belly of the undernet to the internet. They deserve a read, an eclectic group to be sure but with humor and insight we've long appreciated.

Site Plug - JOTOS

We don't normally mention other sites here - there's something unseemly about trading site listings, almost like sharing a needle in a house of web-counter addicts. You'll notice no links to other pages here - you can't list every site, and those you don't list are like the friends you don't mention during an acceptance speech who later resent the hell out of you for it...

But this is for a friend - he's just started his own blog. We were considering co-opting him from time to time for material here, but he's gone creative on us and opened up shop. He's one of the good guys, so consider giving his site a gander.

Dereliction Of Duty

Guilty...as charged...

You may have noticed a dearth of Miller Time updates - rest assured, we are aware of the problem. The intrusion of life has prevented us from doing our sworn duty to bring you noteworthy one liners from The Dennis Miller Show.

Fear not, for the miracle of digital recording and the TiVo allow us to make amends! Expect updates this week for both this and last week.

It will never happen again... at least until it happens again.
